Good Karma Karaoke (GKK) was born out of the isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic, and has a vision to create world-wide love and acceptance by soothing souls through song and a mission to spread good karma and build a loving community that brings together people of diverse social and cultural backgrounds, shares the transformative power of music, and promotes self-empowerment in a safe and nurturing environment. Our online community has included hundreds of karaoke enthusiasts from all over the world, many whom have now met each other in person and consider each other friends or even family.
GKK is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Charitable Foundation) that was founded after the community's 2022 spontaneous Karaoke Marathon to provide an outlet for the creative, charitable, and social activity interests of the members of our online Karaoke community. We hope to be a hub and incubator for creativity of all sorts and provide support and resources for the artists in our community.
The GKK Board and Leadership Team established a number of Guiding Principles for our community during its 2023 Retreat. Some of most notable ones are:
Everyone is welcome and belongs - GKK is radically inclusive as long as you are willing to abide by the community standards for treating each other with kindness and respect. We embrace everyone, regardless of race, religion, national origin, culture, sexual orientation, age, physical or neurological differences, socioeconomic status, political affiliation, gender, or identity.
We maintain a culture of inquiry - we value mutual respect and constructive debate that leads to sound decision making. We seek information, question assumptions and challenge conclusions so that we may advocate for solutions.
We continuously learn - we embrace the qualities of a continuous learning organization, evaluating our own performance and assessing the value we add to the GKK community. We embed learning opportunities into routine governance work and activities outside of board meetings.
We promote Independent Mindedness - We value independent thinking. We base our decisions on personal examination of the facts, full and rich discussion at the board meetings, in consultation with other board members and volunteers. We are non-partisan. We operate using democratic principles and collaboration.
We’re all on the same team! People aren’t the problem, problems are the problem.
